Hamrun is an inland city located south-west of Valletta and Floriana. Hamrun started as a village called "Ta Braksja" around 1500. Its present name was the nickname of a local family and was adopted around 1848. When the church established a new parish in the village in 1881, it also adopted the name Hamrun. Hamrun is a bustling, urban area that developed from fragmented villages. It is a popular shopping town with a lively atmosphere.
